Our History

Sardar Trust (1994)

Sheikh Muhammad Sadiq sets the foundation for Sardar Trust with a modest eye clinic in Garhi Shahu, Lahore.

Sardar Trust was founded with a heartfelt mission to serve humanity through quality healthcare and education. Its journey began in 1994, when the late Sheikh Muhammad Sadiq — a respected businessman and philanthropist — transformed part of his home in Garhi Shahu, Lahore, into a modest eye clinic. What started as a small outpatient facility steadily grew into the Sardar Trust Eye Hospital, a full-fledged institution restoring vision and hope for thousands, regardless of their ability to pay.

Over time, the Trust evolved into an umbrella organisation with two flagship initiatives: the Sardar Trust Eye Hospital (STEH) and the Sardar Institute of Health Sciences (SIAHS). Together, they reflect the founder’s enduring vision — to extend access, equity, and excellence in health and education across Pakistan.

Today, Sardar Trust stands as a bridge between its humble beginnings and a future built on inclusion, quality, and dignity. Guided by a committed Board of Trustees, supported by skilled professionals, and sustained by generous donors, the Trust continues to expand its reach, ensuring that healthcare and education remain a right, not a privilege.

Sardar Trust Eye Hospital (STEH) (1994 - Present)

The eye clinic grows into full-fledged eye hospital, now among Pakistan’s leading centers for ophthalmic care and one of the first trust hospitals in Pakistan to perform corneal transplants. In 2024, the hospital building was fully renovated, strengthening its facilities and patient services.

Established in 1994, the Sardar Trust Eye Hospital (STEH) has grown into a leading centre for comprehensive ophthalmic care in Pakistan. In 2025, STEH was recognized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) for its FCPS residency training in Ophthalmology, welcoming its first batch of trainees that same year and strengthening its role as a leader in specialized eye care and medical education.

The hospital provides a comprehensive range of ophthalmic services, including outpatient consultations, specialized clinics, advanced diagnostic testing, and surgical procedures across various subspecialties. It is also among the first trust hospitals in the country to perform corneal transplant surgeries.

Guided by a commitment to equitable healthcare, the hospital follows standard treatment protocols, employs highly trained staff, and is equipped with advanced diagnostic and surgical technology. STEH actively supports vulnerable communities by providing free or low-cost treatment for patients in need. The hospital also runs programs to raise awareness about eye health and works with NGOs, government departments, and local organisations to improve access to care in underserved areas.

Sardar Institute of Allied Health Sciences (SIAHS) (2025)

The Trust expands into education with the launch of SIAHS, offering PMF-accredited diploma programs in Ophthalmic Technology and Dispensing Opticianry.

Launched in 2025, the Sardar Institute of Allied Health Sciences (SIAHS) is a PMF-accredited academic institution established to address Pakistan’s growing need for trained allied health professionals in the field of eye care. In 2025, SIAHS will offer two-year post-matric diploma programs in Ophthalmic Technology and Dispensing Opticianry.

SIAHS offers a rigorous academic experience rooted in practical relevance. Our programs are designed to build both strong foundational knowledge and essential hands-on skills through structured, real-world training environments. With curriculum standards aligned to both PMF requirements and international best practices, we prepare students to make meaningful contributions to eye care teams and meet the evolving needs of patients and providers alike.
